Epiphany > Lent 2012
The Rector’s Rest
As we transition from the season of Epiphany to Lent, it’s interesting to note that in the Gospel according to Mark which we are reading through this year; Jesus is first revealed at the Jordan River while His cousin John is Baptizing. Jesus submits to baptism by John, to fulfill all righteousness, and then is driven into the dessert by the Holy Spirit to fast and pray in preparation for his ministry. In Mark’s Gospel, it is a ministry of action more than words; of teaching by healing, of proclaiming the initiation of Kingdom of God by casting out demons and letting us know he has come to “bind Satan” and free the world from his strong hold on it. (Mark 3:27) This is so His body on earth, The Church may grow and flourish under His Lordship, and proclaim the renewal of all creation as part of God’s Kingdom breaking into the world through the person of Jesus.
In 1 Corinthians 12:27 we’re told: “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
Paul teaches that there is a spiritual link among all Christians. He illustrates this idea with an analogy of the human body. It is a composite of many different parts. Although each is technically independent, they work together for the benefit of the whole person. The source of this unity is the spirit. In the same way, the members of the Church are autonomous but harmonize in Christ because of the Holy Spirit. Though we do not all play the same role or have the same talents we can work together for the good of the entire community. This is what God calls us to do as His Church.
This coming Lenten Season, which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22, is a time to prepare as Jesus did, with prayer, fasting, and feeding in perhaps a deepen sense on His Word, that we may be nourish, informed and transformed more and more into His likeness. I encourage you to take advantage of all we will offer here in the coming weeks as we pay special attention to the Unity we have in Christ. Take a moment to look over all that’s being offered below, and find your place, in the Body of Christ.

Ephesians 6:10-12 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
