Helping Hands Kitchen by Mira Wind
What is it? Helping Hands Kitchen is an outreach program of Christ Church ECW being organized to help each other through difficult times. When one of our number is down, ill, not well, in need of help, then all of us can band together to help by providing meals.
What you can do: If you cook for yourself, or your family and there are 2 -4 cups extra, and you have a willing heart, it can be put in a container, labeled with the ingredients, dated and brought to Christ Church or to Mira Wind (ph: 783-2380, em: mira_wind@yahoo.com and I will make sure it gets to the Church).
We would like to stockpile for the winter months, Christ Church has obtained a chest freezer (we may need another one(to be announced at a later date)) to keep home cooked food the community provides. Your gift will be inventoried and put into the chest freezer where it will be ready to be handed out to the needy of the community.
Who are the needy? It could be you, your neighbor who is ill and needs a meal or several meals to keep him/her and family going. It could be someone who has just come out of the hospital. It could be a family or person who is in trouble monetarily and needs assistance. It could be someone who cannot get out and needs a helping hand once in a while. As life can be challenging, it is ok for us to ask for help and also to do so for another. If you see or know or hear of someone like this, please contact Mira Wind or your rector or deacon.
When we know of a person in need depending on the type of need, ie, whether an every- day situation, or once a week situation, then a process will be put into place. First and foremost, confidentiality will be strictly adhered to except for those who are in direct contact. For the every day situation, we will initiate a phone-tree immediately to cover until the following Sunday’s church service. Then, a sign-up sheet will be put forth. The same process would also be initiated for a once-a-week situation. Any other situation that may come up will be reviewed and action based-on-need will be determined.
A sign-up sheet will also be posted in the fellowship hall on Sunday if you are willing to help in any way, ie, cooking, providing
containers; plastic 1-quart, 1-pint containers with tops, freezer baggies;1-gallon, 1-quart, aluminum food containers. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mira Wind.
