What is it? Helping Hands Kitchen is an outreach program of Christ Church ECW being organized to help each other through difficult times. When one of our number is down, ill, not well, in need of help, then all of us can band together to help by providing meals.

What you can do: If you cook for yourself, or your family and there are 2 -4 cups extra, and you have a willing heart, it can be put in a container, labeled with the ingredients, dated and brought to Christ Church or to Mira Wind (ph: 783-2380, em: mira_wind@yahoo.com and I will make sure it gets to the Church).

We would like to stockpile for the winter months, Christ Church has obtained a chest freezer (we may need another one(to be announced at a later date)) to keep home cooked food the community provides. Your gift will be inventoried and put into the chest freezer where it will be ready to be handed out to the needy of the community.

Who are the needy? It could be you, your neighbor who is ill and needs a meal or several meals to keep him/her and family going. It could be someone who has just come out of the hospital. It could be a family or person who is in trouble monetarily and needs assistance. It could be someone who cannot get out and needs a helping hand once in a while. As life can be challenging, it is ok for us to ask for help and also to do so for another. If you see or know or hear of someone like this, please contact Mira Wind or your rector or deacon.

When we know of a person in need depending on the type of need, ie, whether an every- day situation, or once a week situation, then a process will be put into place. First and foremost, confidentiality will be strictly adhered to except for those who are in direct contact. For the every day situation, we will initiate a phone-tree immediately to cover until the following Sunday’s church service. Then, a sign-up sheet will be put forth. The same process would also be initiated for a once-a-week situation. Any other situation that may come up will be reviewed and action based-on-need will be determined.

A sign-up sheet will also be posted in the fellowship hall on Sunday if you are willing to help in any way, ie, cooking, providing
containers; plastic 1-quart, 1-pint containers with tops, freezer baggies;1-gallon, 1-quart, aluminum food containers. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mira Wind.

Helping Hands, Healing Hearts

Success!  Our first meeting for Helping Hands, Healing Hearts on February 19 was a wonderful
success.  We gathered, prayed, ate and delivered homemade soups, chili, stews, baked goods and
prayers to 5 families and a person who lives alone.

Our next meeting is Saturday, March 26th at Noon.  Our theme is ‘Winter into Spring’ or ‘Out like a
lamb, in like a lion’ and any interpretation thereof.  Bring a bagged lunch and one, two, four
+ containers of a homemade soup, stew or chili, baked goods to go along with it and anything that
strikes you as something to give that might be spring like, ie flowers, either real or paper. For
those of you who would like to participate but cannot stay please feel free to drop your offerings
off at the Parish Hall or with Mira Wind on March 26th and we will deliver your offerings to some-
one in the community. Your offering needs to have a clear list of ingredients on it. If you have a
suggestion of someone who would benefit from a delivery also please let me know.

What is Helping Hands, Healing Hearts?

This is a variation of the Morris Methodist groups’ The Good News Gals.  A group gathers together
on a designated date and bring offerings of food, baked goods centered around a theme determined
from the previous meeting.  We pray, have fellow- ship, discuss the next meeting date and then come
up with a list of people within the larger community to deliver our offerings to. Then we divvy up
the deliveries and disperse to deliver. This is a way to reach out to our community, to let people
know we are thinking of them and praying for them.

Helping Hands Kitchen

This Ministry continues to aid families in times of difficulty. We have served 3 families this past
month and continue to need your support in stocking the freezer. If you have made a large meal and
have a little extra bring that little extra, labeled with ingredients and dated to the Parish Hall
at Christ Church and we will put it in the freezer. This food goes to families who need some extra
help or families who have had an emergency of some sort. If you know of someone who might need a
helping hand please do not hesi- tate to contact Mira Wind at 783-2380 or by email mira_wind@
yahoo.com.

Our hope is, as we reach out with Helping Hands, Healing Hearts, our awareness of people and
families in need will grow and we will be able to deliver some of the frozen extras we have as well
will be able to deliver some of the fro
as the homemade and fresh offerings.
