New Orleans Team Announced!!
By Deacon Donna
I’d like to introduce you to this year’s New Orleans Mission Team who will travel back to Annunciation Mission to assist our brothers and sisters in Christ in rebuilding their lives after the 2005 Hurricane Katrina. We have been blessed this year to build a team of 10 people. The adults are Terry Colf, Debbie Beach and Deacon Donna Steckline. We have a nice mixture of youth joining the team this year, including two young men from Zion Church, Morris: Jack King and Alden Koch! Jack has some missionary experience and for Alden, this will be a brand new adventure! We’re so excited to have Zion join forces with us in this effort. The two boys will join our own Nathan Beach in bringing muscle and brawn to this group! The girls of course will have their place! Jennifer Pedersen, Logan Eltz, and Katie Bakhuizen are returning missioners who will bring their experience and leadership skills to the team and guide first-timer Jenna Bakhuizen through our week in New Orleans.
Our first fund raising venture will be a “Southern Dinner” on Saturday May 7th from 5- 7 p.m. The Menu will be: Southern-Tier Fried Chicken, Cole Slaw, Macaroni and Cheese, Rolls, Sweet Tea, Coffee, Milk and Ice Cream for dessert. A Free-Will offering will be taken to assist the team in their efforts in New Orleans.
The team will continue to ask your assistance in some new and interesting ways! We would like members of each Church to support team members by writing letters of support and encouragement that the team will read during the trip at the Evening Prayer and Debrief session of each day. Each mission trip is always contingent on the support and prayers of many and we definitely want your prayers and wisdom along with us! An example of such a letter will be available on the Mission Bulletin Board in the Parish Hall.
The team is planning to hold a Car Wash, and Bake Sales in both Morris and Gilbertsville. So keep your eyes peeled for more information on the ways you can assist our missionary efforts!
Bread of Life Supper Ministry
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35
Christ Church is looking to begin a new ministry of a free supper open to everyone.
Bread of Life will be the name of this new ministry and its intent is to feed those who are hungry and give drink to those who are thirsty in a manner fulfilling our parish mission statement: to “demonstrate God’s unconditional love and forgiveness daily, following the example of His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Our plan is to serve dinner at 5:30 PM on Thursdays to our guests, followed by dinner service to our volunteers. Take outs will be available to those who bring their own take away containers on a first come, first served basis following our in-dining room service. For the first few months, we will likely host this dinner once monthly on the last Thursday of the month, with the intent of transitioning to weekly in the coming months as we work through the beginning challenges of this new ministry
If it is your passion to assist in feeding those in need, and have a time of fellowship with your neighbors, this is a great opportunity to get involved in the outreach of Christ Church. All facets of service are needed, from prep-work, to cooking, to serving, and clean-up. Mrs. Shirley Musson, will be the co-coordinator for this program; she may be reached directly at 783-2805 or sdmusson@hotmail.com.
Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to this ministry, and don’t hesitate to contact Shirley for further details.
