Each year this ministry has been a blessing to upwards of 50 children and we fully expect the numbers will grow again this year. “Grandma D” (as we call her- a.k.a. Dolores) has taken on the coordination of new and improved
snacks, assuring a good healthy snack for all. Thanks Dolores for your planning and preparing of these wonderful treats!!

Again this year you’ll find Judy Veenhoff and Marion Albanese with our K - 1 group! They have such fun crafting and learning together!! Of course there are Garrick Hoadley and Donna Taylor who oversee the homework of our 4th-5th-6th graders. Then upstairs we have our 2nd -3rd graders who are assisted by Lynn Hoadley, Renee Farnham, Dave Webb, Margie Harris, Deacon Donna and Fr. Joe. One tid-bit you may not know is that “Mystery” and Elizabeth Gayle also visit us on occasion to read to the children. That is a welcome change in our day when they come for a visit. Thank you Elizabeth and Mystery!! We also have a significant group of teens who have decided to come back and help out! We thank God for Ben O’Connor, Tessa Farnham, Mike Lewis, Katie Gross and Emily Steckline. They either assist with homework, crafts or the outdoor games. Of course Roy Bartoo has again offered to teach fly tying to our young ones! Thanks Roy!

News:

Once again dedicated adults and teens kicked off another year of “St.Afterschool”, with 22 children in attendance on Oct. 19th, 2010.

St. Afterschool is off to another wonderful year! There are several new faces added to our number along with several who have been with us year after year. Each Tuesday we begin with Grace and a healthy snack. Grandma D has really taken control of making sure the kids are well fed! We now have milk and veggies, fruits, muffins or other nutritious goodies made by Grandma D. Thanks to Agro Farma we now receive a donation of Chobani Yogurt once a month for the children. They really enjoy that!

We continue to have a time of worship with the children along with a lesson and teaching from the Bible. They have learned some new songs with hand motions, and are witnessing how God has answered our own prayers! God is good...all the time! It’s truly wonderful to watch their faith grow before our eyes!! Thank you God!
Again the week of Thanksgiving we provided a wonderful meal for our St. Afterschool families. Approximately 100 were fed, probably more with all the staff and helping hands who helped to make it all happen! Thanks to all who helped, especially the Sebeck Family, it was a fabulous meal with great fellowship. All enjoyed the musical offerings of the children as they sang and performed the hand motions to “Lord I Lift Your Name on High” and “Open The Eyes of My Heart Lord”. We also heard of few chuckles after the kids said the “Adams Family Grace.”

We do have fun and as usual, I’d like to offer a huge THANKS to all who come each week and volunteer their time to be Jesus’ hands in our little world here in Gilbertsville! We can see how the kids are growing in their faith and learning about God and having loads of fun at the same time! We continue to offer crafts, fly tying, help with homework, fun and games. Once in awhile we even have a ‘Mystery’ guest! Elizabeth Gayle brings her dog “Mystery” to sit and read with the K-1 children! That’s always a real hit!

Soon we’ll be decorating the food boxes for our local Rotary who will fill them and deliver them to families in need around Christmas. The kids will put together about 100 boxes, and then decorate each and every one of them with our warm thoughts for the families who will receive them. This is a wonderful way the children can give back to others in our community and is yet another way they can learn about how God provides.
Please continue to hold this ministry in your prayers and if you feel drawn to help out on any Tuesday from 3-5:30 PM., please let Deacon Donna know. You’ll be blessed more than you can imagine!
