Dear Christ Church family,

I pray that this letter finds you in good health and that you are managing well during this unique and difficult situation we find ourselves in. As Mother Donna ends her time with us, we as a vestry wanted to reach out to you to let you know our plans moving forward.

Sunday Service: For the time being, we will have Gail continue to prepare bulletins each week in the same format we have been using. The only change will be that the sermons will be from various sources, and no longer from Mother Donna. Thank you Gail for your leadership with this endeavor. We also continue to have the diocesan service with Bishop Love available to all through the diocesan website.

Search Committee: As a vestry, we will be meeting with Mother Elizabeth Papazoglakis to begin the search for a new priest. We ask your prayers over the entire search process and for us as a search committee, that we will find the right leader for our congregation. There are many unknowns right now, but we have faith that God has a plan for our church, and we know that God has already chosen someone to be our rector. We need to trust in Him through this process and pray for open ears and hearts to discern God’s will for our church. We will continue to provide updates to all of you during this transition, but please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Christ Church Needs You: What can you do to help our church right now?

  • Pray – Pray for our church. Pray for our congregation, current and future. Pray for the search committee. Pray for Mother Elizabeth. Pray for our future rector and his/her family. Pray for an end to this virus and for the time when we can all be together again.
  • Worship – Please continue to participate in service each week. I am finding Sunday morning worship at home to be a very special way to feel connected to God and to our church. We have enjoyed a variety of service options, from our parish bulletin, to the diocesan site, to even a family reading of the Passion. Knowing that so many of you are spending your Sunday mornings in prayer and worship while we are helps to keep the sense of fellowship that we all enjoy so much.
  • Faith – Please have faith that we will get through this transition as a congregation and that Christ Church will grow and thrive in the future.
  • Ask – Please share if you have any needs during this time, pastoral or otherwise. You can reach out to any members of the vestry should something arise. Please also reach out to any members of the DOK if you have any specific prayer requests.

  • Give – Please continue to give to our church through your regular Sunday offering. It is important that we continue to meet our financial obligations as a church. You can do this in a number of ways:
    • Drop your offering at the church directly. There are plastic slots to the left of the office door where envelopes can be dropped off. If you are more comfortable, you can also slide your envelope under the office door.
    • Mail your offering to the church. The address is PO Box 345, Gilbertsville, NY 13776. Maureen is checking the box regularly.
  • Love – Please continue to show the love of God and our church everywhere you go. There are so many people hurting right now due to loss of jobs, income, food stability, etc. Let your actions reflect the love that is so needed in our world and do not be afraid to share how God and our church can help.
    • Forward our bulletin to your co-worker or neighbor.
    • Share our Facebook posts so that others may hear God’s word and have some light in these dark times

On behalf of the vestry, I want to take a moment to thank Mother Donna and Kevin for their many years of faithful service to Christ Church. Mother Donna, thank you for your ministry, leadership, teachings, friendship and example. Kevin, thank you for your many years of service as a member of the vestry, caretaker for our property, often literal caretaker for our bodies and leadership of our men’s ministries. We have been so blessed to have you both with us for so many years. We pray that God will continue to work through you, specifically in your mission ministry. You will be sorely missed but will always have a place in our hearts.

In Christ,
